Common Causes of Oily Skin

So what exactly is causing your oily skin? You may want to skim through the causes below and see which one makes the most sense to you!

  1. Genes

While we would love to be discussing blue jeans here, we’re actually talking about genes- as in genetics.

More often than not, oily skin can actually run in the family. Have you asked your parents what their skin types are?

While discovering that your struggle is due to genetics may be disheartening, we hope you know there’s always a solution to manage oily skin- no matter the cause.

  1. Location

Are we the only ones who sing “seeend me, your location…” whenever we see that word?

Anyway, where you live can actually influence how much oil your skin is producing.

Hot and humid climates will trigger your sebaceous glands to produce more oil, and we all know KSA is pretty hot!

While you shouldn’t up and move to a geographical location just because of your oily skin, there are plenty of other rational ways to deal with oily skin in hot weather.

  1. Skincare Products

No, not just any skincare products, but the wrong ones for your skin type.

If you’re prone to oily skin, using a heavy moisturizer that contains lots of oily ingredients will probably make your skin feel even greasier.

Instead, opt for lightweight creams created specifically for oily skin.

This actually leads us into our next point…

  1. Not Enough Moisturizer

…Despite what you think, you still gotta moisturize!

An oil-free, non comedogenic moisturizer is an essential part of your skincare routine. This is especially true if you’re using products with ingredients such as salicylic acid, which may cause some dryness if you’re not moisturizing.

Additionally, your oil glands may begin working overtime to balance the moisture levels on your face if any dryness is detected- which will ultimately lead to more oil production!

  1. Heavy Makeup

You can wear all the makeup you want, we’re not judging! But by heavy we actually mean makeup that contains oils and fillers that will end up being extremely dense on your skin.

This is especially true for foundation. Many of the foundations available are not suitable for oily skin as they contain silicones and comedogenic oils.

To manage your oily skin, it’s best to use an oil-free foundation and concealer.

  1. Age

You’re young- and these are some of the best years of your life!

What this also means, however, is that you are more susceptible to having oily skin. Your oil glands are young and capable, meaning they haven’t slowed down yet. You also still have lots of collagen, which begins to break down as you age.

This is actually great! Enjoy your youth, even if it means having to deal with oily skin.

Different Causes with Similar Solutions

Regardless of the cause, there are great ways to manage your oily skin.

The best way to do so is by creating a skincare routine that helps you balance oil production on your face. Stay consistent, and you’ll start to feel like the oiliness is a lot more manageable.

But at the end of the day, we hope you know you’re beautiful, with or without oily skin.
